Royal Antwerp F.C., the oldest football club in Belgium, is embarking on a new chapter in its rich history following its acquisition under the leadership of Wouter Vandenhaute. This transaction marks a significant milestone for the club and lays the foundation for a sustainable future.
The acquisition was a highly complex transaction in which SDM acted as lead advisor, overseeing the entire process from start to finish. SDM was responsible for the financial, tax, and banking structuring of the transaction, coordinated the legal process in close cooperation with Quorum, led the negotiations between the various parties, and successfully brought the transaction to closing on 24 July at SDM’s offices in Antwerp. Drawing on decades of experience, in-depth expertise, and a strong national network, SDM successfully brought all parties together to complete the transaction.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Wouter Vandenhaute said:
“SDM’s role in this transaction cannot and should not be underestimated.
Without the support of Eddy Verbrugge and his team, we would never have been able to bring this journey to a successful conclusion.
SDM’s professionalism, drive and discretion enabled me to steer the entire process behind the scenes.
But now the real work begins. Together, we dream of restoring the Great Old to its place as a stable top club.
This will be a long-term endeavour, and I am convinced that RAFC can continue to count on SDM’s full support throughout this journey.”
